You get what you focus on

April 8, 2008

I started this blog with such excitement! I have so many coincidences I thought! I will catch them all and make more sense of why they happen Bam as soon as I started the blog coincidences poured into my reality. Yeah! Im on a roll I thought.

But then I started working and focusing on other things, before I knew it my initial excitement for this blog was gone and the coincidences had stopped.

Why is this? Was it that the coincidences kept on happening but I was missing them? Not likely, I catch them all. Was it that the magic was gone? Not likely, magic is constant. Was it that I was distracted and not thinking about the magic and coincidences hence not giving them an energetic space to manifest in? Yes, very likely.

I have come to notice that synchronicities pour into my life under a few different type of circumstances.

1. When I am living and thinking on these things.

2. When great changes are taking place.

3. When I’m alone.

4. When I’m with someone who stimulates my magic gland.

Lately I have not been in these circumstances, I’ve been focusing on practical things, creating, organizing, working. My friends, are amazing, but we hang out and have fun, there is magic there of course, the purest and best kind, however we do not go hunting for magic because we’re more focused on having a lot of fun and sharing a lot of love. I haven’t been alone, really alone, for a long time (and I like it!), and changes are not happening much as I am settling to a practical life for now.

I guess this is why the synchronicities slow down as we settle and find our groove, we don’t give space for random encounters on which universal consciousness thrives on. If you have a shut box of a life, as lovely as it can be, it is still a closed space, nothing gets in. This isn’t a bad thing either. I am choosing to close my box for a bit so I can do some internal growth. I have had time where I have been too open, so a balance is requisite. The most important thing is to not allow a life, a rhythm to ossify and become sterile and with time regressive as opposed to progressive. The trick is to constantly grow and never FORGET about the magic. You can go through phases of no magic, phases of nothing to say, phases of no one to care for, and these are needed. But it is SO important to never forget the magic and coincidences, or how will they appear again. Once you forget about the magic, and forget that you have forgotten about the magic, then you have trouble.

NEVER FORGET – There is something magical, gigantic, knowing, wise, crazy and divine, which permeates the fabric and soul of all things which are conceivable.  The best way to remember is to appreciate, deeply, so you are washed with shivers of contentment, and also to laugh. To laugh is to break the shell which constantly hardens around our aura like a plaque. It can help to have a cover, but to break it, throw it out, as the exoskeleton to be outgrown, is a constant and necessary process. Laughter is the quickest way to do this.

So rather than letting this blog oxidize and be lost to the zeros and ones, I will update with previous coincidences until the next magical phase of my life starts again.

Until then!

LA LA Lalala

December 21, 2007

While driving to Canberra with Zoe I started singing The Offsprings ‘Self Esteem’. I haven’t even thought the Offspring for years, but the song came into my head, ‘I know, I should say no, it’s kinda hard when she’s ready to go! I may be dumb, but I’m not a dweeb, I’m just a sucker with no self esteem!’..

We got to Canberra late so I missed my coach to Sydney. We went walking to an ATM to get money out for a later coach. As we walked past a store on the main mall we heard music blaring out the door, it was the same song I’d been singing earlier.. “I may be dumb, but I’m not a dweeb, I’m just a sucker with no self esteem!”.

11:11 Money Exchange

December 10, 2007

I was telling my uncle Sergio (while I was in Mexico in 2005) about how I keep on seeing the number 11:11 and having lots of coincidences related to that number and my life.

My Uncle is a very open minded person who helped form who I now am, however I could tell he was listening but maintaining a degree of skepticism in what I told him. I can imagine that he thought of the typical reply which is..

‘You only notice the 11:11 because you’re looking for it, but how many times do you look at the clock or something else and it’s not 11:11 but a random number, probability dictates that you will see 11:11 often enough and this is not a coincidence but indeed predictable and probable”

So I left it at that as we drove on to the bank to exchange my American Dollars to Mexican Pesos.

We got to the bank and looked up at the exchange rate on the board;

1 American dollar : 11.11 Pesos.

It felt good to be validated. :)

Megan Called

December 5, 2007

(This coincidence happened around three weeks ago, will put it in its correct spot in a couple of days)

I was at the river in Warrandite with Milo and Caroline (and their dogs) swimming and jumping off the rocks. I remember thinking that ‘Megan would be really happy if she was here’ and about her dog and hanging out with her. I began missing her for a minute. As we were leaving my phone rang. It was Megan calling to say she’d been thinking about me. Megan doesn’t call me very often at all. Around once every two months.

Two names, One Workplace

December 3, 2007

I started a new job at an import agency doing something I’ve always wanted to do (Admin, Import). . It’s my first job in half a year and it came up by chance. The office is small and there’s only four employees including me.

There’s The Boss (Dean), Me (Pablo), The Warehouse Manager for Melbourne (Dean) and The Warehouse Manager for Sydney (Pablo).

I’ve never met a Dean before, in 12 years of living in Australia I’ve only ever met one other Pablo.

Three in a day

November 28, 2007

I had three coincidences today.

1. I caught the tram to work in the morning but there weren’t many free seats. I sat down quickly without buying a ticket from the tram machine so I wouldn’t miss out. Approaching Flinders (Central) I saw a poster in the tram with pictures of undercover police checking trams for tickets and thought ‘gee, you can’t tell they’re cops at all’.

I have never (in 6 months of tram catching) had an undercover ask for a ticket, but I got up and bought a ticket from the machine anyway. I sat down again and no less than ten seconds later an old looking man came inside, looked at me, then proceeded to pull out his police badge and ask to check my ticket.

In all my time in Melbourne this was the first time I’ve been checked by an undercover. Lucky!

2. At work going through my ‘To Do’ list, which has over twenty items on it. I decided to call back a ‘Chris’ about a missing delivery, tho it had no priority over the other 19 tasks on my list. That very instant the phone rung, it was a lady from the delivery company calling to tell me that Chris had just received his item!

Coincidence factor: 2/5 stars.

3. I’ve decided to use a new program with which to keep my ‘to do’s’ and reminders. It is called Remember The Milk (it’s an online web app). There’s a new user tutorial video so I watched it to learn.

On the demo list of the tutorial video the first entry is “Call Emily”. Emily is the fake name that I use for emailing customers at work. (People are nicer when you’re a girl). The third entry is “Call Steve about Lunch”. Steve is my best friend in Melbourne (and in Sydney!) who I planned on calling today! (I took a screenshot of the video below).

11:11 Wakeup

November 25, 2007

I woke up at 11:11 today.

It’s a number I see a lot.

Coincidence Factor: 1.5/5 Stars

(According to a number of sites, new agers, and books, the number 11:11 is a cosmic wink.. I think it could somewhat do with being in tune with a cosmic code, or seeing the numbers as patterns of reality.. It’s hard to explain, but I don’t think it’s as simple as an ‘angel winking’ at you. It does seem to happen a lot however, even having been labelled a ‘coincidence phenomenom‘. Scientifically speaking, people are going to find patterns when they look for them, and they are bound to repeat given a large enough testing range (the whole world). HOWEVER, I have in fact had a number of interesting coincidences with this number, it is also interesting that it’s not another number sequence which is famous for its incidence factor)

Update : WordPress has logged that this blog entry was saved at 3:11:13 PM.

I like to look at numbers and count 31113 as a number sequence.

Efficient!

November 24, 2007

(Note: This is a coincidence that happenned previous to me beginning this blog, I will be uploading coincidences previous to the blogs beginning in order to build a previous coincidence database. I will post one up for every second day without a coincidence to report, with the date included, after 1 week I will archive these in their correct hierarchy and position)

November 6, 2007:

I started a new job doing administration for an import business. In my role I have to type and retype many templates. ‘Surely there’s a better way..’ I thought, so I introduced macros and hotstrings to my work, cutting down the amount of work and typing I have to do by half. I called my best friend Austin and told him about how ‘Efficient’ I’d made my job. ‘It’s my word of the week!’.

——

Walking home from Zoe’s five days later I got a call from Austin, “Pablo! I have the horse for you!”. “What?”, “The Melbourne cup! It’s today! I have the horse for you to bet on, It’s Efficient!” “Huh” “Efficient! It’s your word of the week, there’s a horse named Efficient you have to bet on it! trust me.” “Ok man, I will!..” but I didn’t.

The next morning I woke up to find, “IT’S EFFICIENT!”, on the front page of every newspaper.

Efficient had won the Melborne Cup.

At 28:1 Odds. Surprising even its owner and coach.

On a $20 bet I would have won close to $600. Damn.

A Call from Zoe

November 22, 2007

I’d been thinking about calling Zoe so I got up from the computer, picked up my phone, and of course it started ringing, I knew it was Zoe.

I answered laughing “That’s so funny! I was just about to call you”.

Zoe and I don’t call each other on the phone very often. Around once a fortnight.

Coincidence Factor : 1.5/5 Stars.

(Is it a coincidence that after I start a blog about coincidences I have two of them?)

333

November 21, 2007

I decided to keep a log of coincidences in my life today. I just finished writing the intro to the blog. As I finished and wrote which tags should belong to the blog I noticed the word count for my introduction had landed at 333.

333 is an interesting number. One I have pondered on and which has much meaning. 33 is one which repeats in my life quite a bit. It also relates to my name. Funny that it came just as I was starting this blog!

Coincidence factor: 3/5 stars.

By the way, my birthday is a Palindrome. 2891982. It’s the third and last Palindrome birthday in the decade (after 0891980 and 1891980).
